Interview with Kevin of Southspace.com
1. Since when has Strength
been aroud and what changes has the band gone through
lately?
We have been around since 1997 and have gone through
more changes than you can imagine. Since 1997, we
have had 2 drummers, 5 bassists, and 3 different
guitarists.
It is a never-ending process with us. In fact, next
year our currnet bassist Steve will be leaving the
band permanently for college. So that's one more
change we can add to our list.We
will replace him and keep SFAR alive for all our
fans out there.
2.
Are yo satisfied with the end results of your
Recording Show and Prove?
Yes, we have been very pleased with it. The recording
came out great, as did the layout. We have had
nothing but positive feedback and review from
the record. So, yeah, I am very please with how
everything turned out and from what I hear, so
are our fans.
3.
How are people`s responses and how has it been
selling?
Again, the response has been terrific. Great reviews,
publicity, and feedback from both fans and other
bands and clubs. We are selling great over in
Japan and doing good here in the states and in
Europe.
4.
How would you describe your style on the new record
and how do you think its different from previous
releases?
The style on the new record is pure in-your-face
style. We still bring the old-school style combined
with the new-school beats and breakdowns. Basically
it differs from our previous releases because
our progression shows through more on this record.
Our music is tighter, more powerful, and put together
a lot better that our other cds. I think it shows
that we put everything we had into this album.
5.
How would you say the Hardcore Scene ont he East
Coast has developed the past few years (specific:
PA)?
The scene is strong and has been getting stronger
over the past few years. It seems that a lot of
clubs are closing down, but the kids still keep
the spirit alive and keep the shows going wherever
they can. PA
has seen its rough times, but it is still one
of the strongest and well-respected areas in the
hardcore world today.
A lot of well-known bands have come out of Pa
and kept the hardcore spirit alive and more great
bands are in the works.
6.
Do you have any plans on touring the U.S, Europe?
We are the 'weekend warriors.' We definitely want
to get over to Europe and Japan someday, and ever
California. We go on as long of a tour as our
jobs and lives will allow and get out to wherever
we can. If we can hook something up in Europe,
Japan, or even here, we will be there.
7.
Who writes the lyrics and what would yo usay the
mainly deal with?
We all write the lyrics for our songs. Karl writes
the majority of them and we give our input as
to what needs to be changed or stressed. All our
lyrics deal with our personal lives and events
that have impacted us throughout our lives. They
deal with family problems, friendship, and self
respect and value. We
have been told by many fans that our lyrics have
helped them out in their lives and I think that
is one of the biggest compliments that a band
can get. To know their hardwork, is paying off
and helping others in their tough times.
8.
Where do you see the Hardcorescene in 10 years
do think it will become more trendy?
The hardcore scene today is a little too trendy.
Kids selling out their straight edge lifestlye
cause its cool now, the trendy haricuts and clothes,
and especially the trendy stuck up attitudes.
It all comes full circle in the end though. So
hopefully in ten years from know, we will be where
we were 10 years ago from today. Everyone was
united, having fun and weren't jumping on every
trend that popped up.
9.
Why the title Show and prove?
We named the album Show and Prove because that
one phrase out of our song called Life, is what
we are all about. Show and Prove to the people
who try to put you down and degrade you that you
are better than then. It
means that you will stay true to yourself and
your beliefs and not give into people's criticisms
and societies trends. It basically means to be
your own person and not someone that people want
you to be. Show and Prove to them that you are
who you are and that you can make it on your own.
10.
What are youre future plans personnaly and with
the band?
We plan on playing until is isn't possible anymore.
We have survived this long and plan on being around
for a lot longer. I plan on eventually getting
over to Europe, Japan and the everywhere else
we can. Keep your eyes peeled for us.
11.
Last words, shout outs?
Thanks to Kevin for this interview and SouthSpace.com
for all the support they have given us. Shout
outs to the BFL family, Nanticoke Straight Edge,
and all our friends and our fans. We
appreciate it all and never forget.
